Exam Project 2017-18
Year Eleven, Fine Art Exam Paper One, 2017. (60%)
Architecture/ Buildings.
Week commencing 06/09/2017.
Produce a portfolio of work based on architecture/ buildings ensuring you cover the four assessment objectives.
The project will be completed during class and at home for the duration of 13 weeks. The project is worth a total of 96 marks (72 marks for sketchbook/preparation work and 24 marks for final piece.) It is essential that all of the four assessment objectives are covered successfully in order to achieve a higher grade pass/ level 5 (see assessment objective mark sheet for marking criteria.)
Assessment Objectives.
AO1 – Working in artist styles with written research to support. (24 marks)
A02 – Planning for a final piece in the style of your chosen artist, and use of materials and texture. (24 marks)
A03 – Detailed tonal drawings from own photographs. (24 marks)
AO4 – Final piece/s which is clearly informed by other artists. (24 marks)
Please ensure that you meet strict deadlines - it’s important that you spend an even amount of time on each of the assessment objectives to ensure that you have covered them all successfully.
Week One
Lesson one.
Lesson One – Brainstorm possible ideas for your ‘Architecture/Building’ project, examples shown.
Homework at the end of lesson one - take six photos of architecture/ buildings. You need six good quality photos at least A5 in scale. (Internet pictures will not be allowed.)The photos need to be brought to your next lesson, already printed. You may use school computers before and after school to print, not during lesson. (DON’T BRING THEM ON MEMORY STICK AND EXPECT TO PRINT THEM DURING LESSON, YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED BEFORE THE LESSON WITH IMAGES READY TO DRAW FROM.)
Lesson 2,
Weeks 1- 3
Week commencing 7/9/2017 - 29/9/2017
Objective- Build upon evidence to support A03 of the assessment criteria (Recording ideas through line drawing and photos.)
You must complete a minimum of:
6 x detailed tonal drawings of things related to your ‘Architecture/ building’s. (3 x grey pencil studies and 3 x coloured studies using materials of your choice.) These will be completed in both class time and at home for the duration of three weeks.
Weeks 4-7
2nd Oct – 27th Oct 2017
Objective- Build upon evidence to support A01 of the assessment criteria (artist research).
You must complete at least: 6 x artist research pages (working in the style of a chosen artist with written analysis to support each one.) These will be completed in class and at home for the duration of four weeks.
Discuss with your teacher artists who are relevant to your architecture/building project. A mixture of contemporary and traditional artists would be best.
Weeks 8 – 11
6th Nov - Fri 1st Dec 2017
Objective – Build upon evidence to support A02 of the assessment criteria (planning ideas and experimenting with materials.)
You must have at least:
6 x finished plans. (Plans should be an idea that you are considering for a final piece and should therefore show clear links to your chosen artist’s style.) Plans should also include photography and written annotation.
You may experiment with different materials, techniques and processes. The purpose of having six plans/design ideas is to re- visit an idea using different compositions, colours/ materials and textures. (These will be completed in both class time and at home for the duration of four weeks.)
Week 12
4th Dec 2017
Objective - Build upon evidence to support A04 of the assessment criteria. (Final outcome).
Prepare materials for your final piece i.e. Dye fabrics, draw outline.
Week 13
Week beginning 11th Dec 2017
Exam Week
Exam to take place on the 14th and 15th of Dec 2017. (TBC)
Students must ensure that they are completing at least 2 hours of homework per week, all tasks must be completed by the deadlines. Please remember that the department is open Wed, Thurs and Fri from 3.00pm – 4.00pm in order to complete tasks and get extra support from teachers if required.
Deadline for prep work 3.00pm 13th Dec 2017 (no extension! The exam regulations state, ‘all preparatory work must be handed in before the start of the ten hour timed piece’.
